PORTLAND, Ore. – As announced Monday afternoon by the conference office, freshman
Morgan Hirzel (Fullerton, Calif.) was named Cascade Collegiate Conference Hitter of the Week after helping lead Corban's women's volleyball program in a pair of five-set thrillers against Concordia and Warner Pacific.
"I am proud of Morgan and thought that she had a really good chance at the award this week," said first-year head coach
Nels Norquist. "It was nice that we passed well enough to get her the ball, as she began hitting the areas that we asked her to. I think that our hitters and setters are starting to connect a little better and that is producing the outcomes that we have been looking for."
Hirzel, a 6-foot-2 right side hitter, led the Warriors in kills this weekend with a combined 35. The first-year Warrior also registered a hitting percentage of .247 over the 10 sets to go along with a combined two assists, three digs, and three blocks (1 solo, 2 assist).
On Friday against conference rival Concordia, Hirzel posted a team-high 17 kills and tabulated 18 points that included her lone solo block of the weekend.
Twenty-four hours later, Hirzel led the Warriors once again with 18 kills against Warner Pacific. The Orange Lutheran High School graduate also handed out two assists and registered a pair of assist blocks against the Knights.
This is Hirzel's first Hitter of the Week honor ever and the program's second conference award this season.
Corban is currently 9-15 overall and 7-8 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. The Warriors will embark on their final road trip of the season beginning on Friday, October 30th, in Ashland against the NAIA's No. 12-ranked Raiders of Southern Oregon at 7:00 p.m. inside McNeal Pavilion.
