BOX SCORES – GAME #1 | GAME #2
CALDWELL, Idaho – Senior
Erin Sailors (Anchorage, Alaska) became the first Warrior in program history to strike out 500 career batters Friday afternoon against The College of Idaho, but it was not enough as Corban's softball team dropped a pair to the 'Yotes, 6-1 & 6-0, at Symms Field.
In today’s opener, The College of Idaho scored six unanswered runs as ‘Yotes starting pitcher Jody Zillner took a no-hitter into the final inning.
Sophomore
Jennifer Kollaer (Albany, Ore.) registered a lead-off single to right center to break up Zillner’s bid for a no-no. One batter later, junior
Jessica Schell (Portland, Ore.) roped a single to left field to load the bases before freshman
Ashley Strom (Salem, Ore.) brought home Corban’s lone run of the afternoon via a hit-by-pitch to break up the shut out.
The highlight of Game #1 for the Warriors came in the bottom of the fifth inning when Sailors struck out C of I’s Kalie Kurdy looking to register her 500th K and joined an elite group of pitchers in the conference to accomplish the feat.
In Game #2, sophomore
Jessie Jones (Gladstone, Ore.) roped a double to left center in the top of the third inning to register her 45th hit of the season and in the process eclipsed the single-season record for hits that was previously held by former Warriors Beth Franke (2005) and Ashley Bellum (2004).
Unfortunately, that was Corban’s lone highlight of the finale as Jones went a perfect 4-for-4 to add to her single-season mark coupled with her single-season record for stolen bases with 18 that she set seven games ago against Northwest Christian.
On the afternoon, Jones led the Warriors’ bat-attack with four hits to go along with Kollaer’s two-hit performance. In the circle, Sailors went the opening 5.0 innings of Game #1 allowing five runs (two earned) on four hits to go along with a team-high six strikeouts before turning the ball over to freshman
Twyla Baggarley (Hillsboro, Ore.) for the final three outs. In the night cap, freshman
Brittany Wagner (Oregon City, Ore.) went the distance for the Warriors allowing six runs (five earned) on 14 hits.
The College of Idaho was led offensively by Kurdy, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI in the opener. Meanwhile, Amy Rhoades and Haley Butcher each had three hits in the Game #2 win. Zillner went the distance in Game #1 allowing one earned run on two hits to go along with game-high nine strikeouts. Brooke Judy took to the circle in Game #2 for C of I and went the distance allowing just eight hits coupled with a game-high six K’s.
With today’s results, Corban falls to 18-22 overall and 6-12 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action. Meanwhile, The College of Idaho improves to 26-15 overall and a conference-leading 15-3 mark in CCC play. The Warriors will return to the diamond on Saturday, April 25th, against the Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon beginning at 11:00 a.m. in La Grande looking to match the single-season win record of 20 that was set by the program’s inaugural 2004 squad.
