PORTLAND, Ore. –
Mark Colachico, in his fourth year as the Sports Information Director at Corban College & Graduate School, was named the 2008-09 Cascade Collegiate Conference Mike Booth SID of the Year.
Announced by the conference last Thursday, Colachico was recognized by a vote of his league peers for “outstanding contributions” to his program. Commissioner Dave Haglund, of the 11-member Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC), said the annual award is given to the SID who performed the best among all conference SIDs during the year. It is named for the late Mike Booth, former conference SID and Treasurer. The award named after Booth was first presented in spring 2006.
“Mark helps set the standard in the CCC and is extremely deserving of this honor,” said Haglund. “The fact the award is voted on by his peers is a reflection of the respect he has earned from others around the league.”
The 12 eligible SIDs were rated, among other criteria, on production of well-written media guides, press releases, and web postings; accurate and timely reporting of statistics; professionalism with media and other SIDs in the press box; and leading by example.
Colachico, 33, earned a Bachelor of Science in organizational leadership from Azusa Pacific University in 2002. He interned six months for media relations of the Anaheim Angels Baseball Organization during its 2002 championship season, and then he served three years as the Sports Information Director and Assistant Athletic Director at Hope International University in Fullerton, Calif. In 2005 he joined Corban’s Athletic Department. He currently oversees all aspects of sports information for the thirteen intercollegiate sports offered by the college. Along with his duties as full-time SID, Mark will begin his third season as the assistant men’s and women’s golf coach.
Corban’s Assistant Director of Athletics, Tim Seiber, said, “It’s nice to see Mark’s breadth of knowledge and technical aptitude in the sports information field be recognized in this way. He’s played an instrumental role in upgrading our athletics web presentation to the point of receiving national recognition, as well as in helping Corban Athletics begin seriously to explore the expanding possibilities of internet broadcasting.”
Haglund stated, “I know Mark to be extremely conscientious and to go the extra mile regardless of the task or endeavor; that’s what makes him a pro. He is always looking to present Corban, his conference and the NAIA in a positive light. His annual media guides and the newly launched athletic web site are just two examples of this. Plus, he did an excellent job leading the conference SID group as its chairperson for the past two years.
“I believe the coaches and student-athletes at Corban are extremely fortunate to have a SID like Mark who cares so much about his school, his conference and his profession. He is a credit to the CCC.”
