Women Win Title, Men Second at Corban Invite

FINAL RESULTS – WOMEN | MEN

SALEM, Ore.
– In the season-opening Corban Invitational and first-ever on-campus event in the Capital City, Corban's cross country teams finished first and second respectively in a dual meet against Warner Pacific College Saturday morning at the Warrior SportsPlex.

Today's festivities began with a 3K race/walk for faculty, staff, and students of Corban before the collegiate races started.

In the women's 3K collegiate race, sophomore Amy Renfro (Albany, Ore.) won the event in a time of 12:35.95. This is Renfro's first victory in her short amount of time as a Warrior.

Corban took home the top four spots in the race, as sophomore Becca Zanon (Salem, Ore.), sophomore Courtney Welling (Springfield, Ore.), and freshman Lauren Cross (Missoula, Mt.) finished in times of 12:55.96, 13:01.72, and 13:11.89 respectively. Sophomore Alethea Strauser (Salem, Ore.) rounded out the Warriors' top runners, as she finished sixth in a time of 13:31.14.

Warner Pacific's top runner was Katt Korpela, who finished fifth overall in a time of 13:28.91.

As a team, Corban combined to finish the course in a time of 1:05:16.66 and earned 16 total points en route to winning its third straight Corban Invitational. Meanwhile, Warner Pacific ran the course in a combined time of 1:09:21.76 and recorded 40 team points.

On the men's side, sophomore Caleb Goins (Scio, Ore.) overcame a trio of runners over the final 60 yards en route to winning today's season-opening event in a time of 17:43.65.

Freshman Jacob Bowdoin (Grants Pass, Ore.), freshman Taylor Adrian (Portland, Ore.), junior Ben Search (Battle Ground, Wash.), and freshman David Brown (Meridian, Idaho) rounded out the Warriors' Top 5 finishers. The quartet of Warrior harriers had times of 18:15.82 (Bowdoin), 18:32.60 (Adrian), 18:41.09 (Search), and 19:04.78 (Brown) respectively in helping Corban's cause.

As a team, Corban combined to run the 5K course in a time of 1:32:17.94 and tallied 28 combined points. Warner Pacific ran the course in a combined time of 1:31:51.37 and registered 27 team points en route to winning the event by a mere point over the host Warriors.

Eric Lagerstrom was Warner Pacific's top finisher, as he placed second with a time of 17:44.70 with the Knights' Karim Shakalia finishing in the Top 5 thanks to a time of 17:59.50.

Corban will be next in action on Saturday, September 12th, when they compete in the Lewis & Clark Invitational in Estacada beginning at 11:00 a.m.
