PORTLAND, Ore. – Current Corban freshman student-athlete
Tess Bennett (Sutherlin, Ore.) has been named as a finalist for the Johnny Carpenter Prep Athlete of the Year award at the 4A/3A/2A/1A level and will be apart of the 2010 Oregon Sports Award Show this Sunday, January 31st, at the Tiger Woods Center on the Nike World Campus.
Bennett, who is a member of the Warriors' women's basketball and softball teams, came to Corban after playing four years at Sutherlin High School. The first-year Warrior was nominated by her hometown newspaper,
The News Review, following her amazing senior basketball season.
As a senior, Bennett was named Far West League Player of the Year for the second straight season while helping lead the Bulldogs to a third place finish in the 4A state tournament. Bennett also helped lead Sutherlin to a No. 13 ranking among all 4A teams in the state of Oregon, while also helping the Bulldogs post an overall win-loss record of 26-1 that included a perfect 13-0 league record.
Bennett was named 1st team All-Far West League for the third straight season, while also earning 1st team all-state recognition last season. Following the conclusion of her senior season, Bennett took part in the two-day OACA East-West All-Star Series at Corban and George Fox University while also playing as part of Team Oregon at the Oregon-Washington McDonald's All-American game.
This weekend, Bennett will be joined at the Tiger Woods Center by fellow finalists Kayla Braud (Marist HS), Caralyn Chewning (Willamina HS), Emily Funkhouser (Sherman HS), Hayley Ney (Catlin Gabel HS), Allie Rogers (Marist HS), Taylor Wallace (Henley HS), and Tayla Woods (Santiam Christian HS).
The 2010 Oregon Sports Awards will air six times on Comcast SportsNet with the following schedule...
