BOX SCORE

SALEM, Ore.
– Twenty-four hours after surviving a second half comeback, Corban's women's basketball team could not overcome the visiting team's hot shooting from long range as the Warriors fell to Oregon Tech, 60-54, Saturday night inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.

With the loss, Corban falls to 9-16 overall and 4-9 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Meanwhile, Oregon Tech continues its climb up the conference standing and improves to 13-11 and 7-6 in league action.

Sophomore Katie Steigleman (Eugene, Ore.) led the Warriors in scoring with 10 points on 3-for-12 shooting from the field that included a 3-for-6 showing from three-point distance. The second-year Warrior was aided scoring-wise by fellow sophomore Becky Buhler (Clackamas, Ore.), who tallied nine points all on three-point buckets. On the boards, junior Jennesa Miller (Mica, Wash.) grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with freshman Emily Tsugawa's (Gladstone, Ore.) game-high tying six assists.

After falling behind by four points (6-2) early in the first half, Corban used a 13-3 run en route to grabbing a six-point lead (15-9) following a lay-in by junior Kayla Shaughnessy (Camano Island, Wash.) with just under ten minutes left on the clock. Oregon Tech would battle back to knot things at 15-all before Corban used another 13-3 run that resulted in a 28-18 Warrior lead with just over four minutes left. Over the final four-plus minutes, Corban would work to extend its lead to 12 points at the half (33-21).

In the second half, Corban would push its lead to as much as 14 points (39-25) in the opening four minutes thanks to a jumper by sophomore Kira Lyon (Salem, Ore.). Unfortunately, Corban would watch as Oregon Tech used a 30-13 over the next 15-plus minutes thanks to eight Owl three-pointers that resulted in a one-point lead (55-54) with just under two minutes left. Timely shooting and tough defense down the stretch would help Oregon Tech secure the six-point win (60-54).

Oregon Tech was led in scoring by Lisa Busch, who tallied a game-high 11 points on 4-for-13 shooting from the field that included a 3-for-10 clip from behind the three-point arc. Nicole Morgan and a pair of Owls – Brittany Cherry and Kelsey New – added 10, 8, and 8 points respectively, while Cherry pulled down a team-leading eight rebounds for the victorious Klamath Falls-based institute.

As a team, Corban shot 22-for-65 (33.8%) from the field to go along with an 8-for-19 (42.1%) performance from behind the three-point line and a 2-for-6 (33.3%) showing at the free throw line. On the other hand, Oregon Tech was 23-for-65 (35.4%) from the field, 12-for-30 (40.0%) from long distance, and 2-for-9 (22.2%) from the charity stripe.

Corban will return to the court on Friday, February 5th, against former conference rival Concordia beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Portland.
