PORTLAND, Ore. – After nearly matching the program's single game scoring record, sophomore
Katie Steigleman (Eugene, Ore.) was named Cascade Collegiate Conference Player of the Week Monday afternoon by the league office.
In three games this week, Steigleman helped lead the Warriors to a 2-1 record thanks to averages of 21.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 3.3 steals per game.
After being held to a mere five points on 2-for-7 shooting from the field Wednesday against Oregon Tech, Steigleman exploded for a combined 59 points on 23-for-41 shooting from the field in a pair of wins over nationally-ranked Southern Oregon and California Pacific Conference member Simpson.
In the Warriors' 82-71 victory over the NAIA's No. 9-ranked Raiders of Southern Oregon, Steigleman tallied a team-leading 21 points on 7-for-17 shooting from the field to go along with nine rebounds, five assists, and two steals.
Less than 48 hours later, Steigleman etched her name in the history books with a 38-point performance on 15-for-24 shooting from the field as Corban won its fifth game in the past seven contests thanks to an 88-59 victory against Simpson. The 5-foot-11 forward's point total was second best all-time in women's basketball history, as she finished a mere point behind former Warrior Kylie Miller's 39-point effort against Menlo during the 1999-2000 season. Steigleman's 15 made field goals also tied the single game record in program history.
So far this season, Steigleman has scored 10-or-more points 12 times, 20-or-more points four times, and eclipsed the 30-point plateau for the first time in her career to close out her week. Steigleman is averaging a team-leading 15.7 points per contest, while ranking fourth in the conference in scoring and 12th in rebounding with an average of 5.7 boards per game.
This is the second time this season and third time during her young Warrior career that Steigleman has been named conference Player of the Week.
Corban returns to conference action this weekend against Warner Pacific on Friday, January 8th, beginning at 5:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center in Salem. The Warriors are currently 7-10 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
