PORTLAND, Ore. – As announced by the league office Monday, freshman
Jacob Kopra (Gresham, Ore.) earned his third Cascade Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week honor this season after defeating the NAIA's No. 23-ranked The College of Idaho last week via his first career shutout.
The 6-foot-4 right-hander put together a complete game, five-hit performance against the nationally-ranked Coyotes in helping Corban to a 1-0 victory Friday afternoon. Kopra threw 104 pitches over his nine innings, while walking only one batter and striking out a game-high five C of I hitters.
So far this season, Kopra has appeared in 10 games (nine starts) and registered 49.2 innings of work. The first-year Warrior is first among the team's starters in Earned Run Average (4.89), wins (4), appearance (10), games started (9), complete games (1), and shutouts (1).
Kopra joins The College of Idaho's Ben Rosen as the only pitcher to win the conference's Pitcher of the Week award more than once this season.
With only 13 games remaining in its season, Corban is currently 10-28 overall and 4-19 in NAIA West play. The Warriors will return to the diamond tomorrow – Tuesday, April 13th – against cross town rival and NCAA Division III member Willamette beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Keene Stadium in Salem.
