Runners Enjoy 12 Hours at Corban Relay Event
12 Hrs. @ Corban
Individual champion William Swint finished 20 laps in a course-record 11 hours, 57 minutes Saturday at the first-ever 12 Hours @ Corban running relay event.
SALEM, Ore. – In the first-ever 12 Hours at Corban adventure running event, a modest but enthusiastic number of team and individual racers braved the rain and rugged cross country terrain to make history on the newly-forged 5K course that surrounds the University and also incorporates Oregon Department of Correction land.

The 11-person team from LCG Pence Construction concluded the day as the overall Corporate champions completing 23 laps in a record time of 12 hours, 1 minute, and 8.6 seconds. Team member Roland Mack began the race for LCG Pence and completed a team-high three laps, while every other team member clocked two laps over the course of the day.

The LCG Pence team, in training to prepare for the well-known, annual Hood To Coast relay, combined to run 115 kilometers (71.3 miles) during the 12 Hours at Corban event.

William Swint won the individual champion after completing 20 laps in a record time of 11 hours, 57 minutes, and 19.7 seconds. As the lone individual to complete the full 12 hours, Swint was not running merely for himself. His greater goal was to help raise money for the track renovation project at Marion Elementary School in Turner. Salem-based Run Wild Adventures provided Swint with a major sponsorship, as did Marion teachers and friends of the school who support the track improvement.

Tamara Nixon, PTO President at Marion Elementary, said that the money that Swint raised will go to help improve the existing track in Turner and give the students a place to run and enjoy the outdoors.

Swint could have completed another lap, but decided to cross the finish line with his two sons at his side surrounded by more than 50 people clapping and cheering his accomplishment.

All-in-all, Swint reached his pre-event goal of 100 kilometers (62 miles) and raised over $800.00 for the track project.

Other individual runners included Bret Henry, who finished 10 laps in 6 hours, 32 minutes, and 9.8 seconds, and Dustin Hamilton, who logged 10 laps in 6 hours, 48 minutes, and 38.1 seconds.
