PORTLAND, Ore.
– Corban University's women's volleyball team has been picked to finish fifth in the conference according to the Cascade Collegiate Conference coaches' preseason poll that was released on Tuesday by the league office.

"I am pleased with our preseason ranking," said second-year head coach Nels Norquist. "We have a lot of talent returning from last year along with a mix of newcomers that should help us improve this season."

According to the coaches' preseason poll, five-time conference champions Southern Oregon are touted as the preseason favorite edging out The College of Idaho by one point. The Raiders earned six first-place votes and a total of 95 points, while the Coyotes were picked No. 1 on the other four ballots and earned 94 total points.

Rounding out the Top 5 are Concordia (70 points), Eastern Oregon (66 points), and Corban (55 points). The bottom half of the conference featured Oregon Tech (54 points), Northwest (40 points), Warner Pacific (39 points), Northwest Christian (25 points), and Evergreen (12 points).

Corban returns 10 players from last year's roster, including All-Cascade Collegiate Conference 1st team member and sophomore Chandra Baskoro (Gresham, Ore.). Coming off a win-loss record of 10-17 last season, Norquist hit the recruiting pavement during the off-season and brought in six players that includes 2A all-state honorable mention and freshman Bailey Wold (Spokane, Wash.).

The Warriors will begin their 2010 season on Wednesday, September 1st, against NCAA Division III member Lewis & Clark at 7:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center.
